Zlatan Ibrahimovic return to Paris

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 31, has come back to Paris after the summer holidays. He does it with a lot of question marks hanging over him- and with a scheduled meeting with President Nasser al-Khelaïfi.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe PSG’s president Nasser al-Khelaïfi, the man behind the super solicitation of Napoli’s Edison Cavani, 26, has traveled to Paris to meet with Laurent Blanc and the players before the team travels to Sweden friendlies. According to l’Equipe al-Khelaïfi wants to insure star players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, that PSG still has ambitious goals – despite Carlo Ancelotti left the club.
– Ibra will stay, that’s for sure. He’ll play with Cavani, that’s why we bought him. But the details about the team his coach is taking care of, said PSG’s owner Al Khelaifi at Tuesday’s press conference.

Carlo Ancelotti has been on his way to leave Paris Saint-Germain and the last week all the rumors has been about the most likely possible replacements which is Laurent Blanc, 47. Today PSG confirms that the French coach and former star player, takes over as coach of the French capital club.

“PSG’s mission for Laurent Blanc is to continue the already started hike to the top of Europe,” the club writes on its website.

PSG enter a two-year contract with Laurent Blanc, who comes from the job as coach of the French national team – a job he left after Euro 2012.

“Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce that Laurent Blanc arrives as new coach over the next two years. He will train the team when training resumes on July 1st,” PSG states on their website.

With Laurent Blanc PSG gets a coach who has experience in Ligue 1 as both player and coach. Between 2007 and 2010 he trained Bourdeaux. First season he received the price for this year’s coach after a second place and the second season at the club, he won the league.

As a player Blanc won the World Championship gold in 1998 and European Championships in 2000. He played for Marseille, Montpellier, Barcelona, Manchester United and Milan at club level.

Carlo Ancelotti, who trained PSG over the past one and a half seasons was presented at the same time as the new coach of Real Madrid. Under Ancelotti PSG ended the past season with winning the league in France and in the Champions League they went out in the quarter-finals against Barcelona after a close encounter.

PSG got rejected by Fabio Capello. Now they are instead mostly focusing on that Laurent Blanc will be Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s new coach. The French national team legend and former coach is in advanced stage of negotiations with the club, writes both Le Parisien and L’Equipe.

Earlier this week, it seemed to be almost ready. Several French and Italian media stated that Fabio Capello, 67, would take over Paris Saint-Germain – but that deal now seems rejected by Fabio Capello as we wrote yesterday.

The Italian, with a long and digested credit, turned down PSG and will remain as coach of Russia.
Let’s see, instead, a former French national coach out to take over the club. According to both Le Parisien, L’Equipe, among others, Laurent Blanc is in advanced stage of negotiations with PSG.

The 47-year-old – with close to 100 games as a player in the CV – led Bordeaux to the Ligue 1 title in 2009, but has not committed to any assignment since he was fired from the French national team after the Euro fiasco last year.

Names as Frank Rijkaard, Andre Villas-Boas, Michael Laudrup, Guus Hiddink, Roberto Mancini and Rafa Benitez have said no to the offer from PSG – but now it appears as Laurent Blanc is close signing with the Paris club.

PSG fans love Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Now we have it in black and white after they voted for the Swede as player of the year in the club. There was a poll on the club’s website about this years best player and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was voted the year’s best player during the season. He got 25 percent of the votes and won before Matuidi and Pastore. And it is not so surprising. Ibra scored 30 goals and won the top scorer and played obviously a big role in PSG’s first league gold in 19 years.

Zlatan finished off a productive 2012 with a hat-trick against Valenciennes and stopped after the first half of the season on 18 goals and titled as autumn champions. And 2013 gave us more of the same. He finished 11 goals before the second placed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Saint-Etienne. It was a fantastic season from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

PSG increased revenue with 100 million

That Paris Saint-Germain could recruit Zlatan Ibrahimovic has its explanations. The Paris team was the club in Europe, which increased its revenue the most this recent season. PSG went from 86.5 million Euro in revenue from 2011 to 190 million Euro in 2012, according to figures provided the audit and consulting firm Deloitte has presented.

The increase of just over one 100 million Euro was larger than the whole of the Premier League’s increased revenues. And other clubs in Ligue 1 saw their revenues decline by more than 20 million Euro during the same year.

Premier League was the league with the most revenue in total, over 2.4 billion, while the Bundesliga was second at 1.6 billion and Spanish La Liga third on 1.5 billion. Barcelona and Real Madrid’s income rose by 500 million together while other La Liga clubs saw revenues decline by 16 million.

Wayne Rooney’s future at Manchester United is uncertain and the Manchester star has been subject for rumors about most clubs in this summers transfer window. Wayne Rooney has long been rumored to be moving away from the club and has previously been linked together with PSG.

Yesterday Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two goals in the 3-1 victory against Brest. Tonight he threw on the tuxedo and went to the French Football Awards, Trophées UNFP du football. There he would find out if the players and coaches in the league voted Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the player of the year in the French league, Ligue 1.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was nominated for the award of player of the year along with teammates Thiago Silva and Blaise Matuidi and Saint Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. And when the winner was read out Zlatan Ibrahimovic could conclude that prize as the player belonged to him.

It was a tough battle for votes with defense giant Thiago Silva, who should have been ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic well into the counting of votes. But when all the votes was counted together eventually Zlatan Ibrahimovic won.
– A great honor to receive this award by David Ginola, a double honor that way. I respect all the players, but I particularly want to thank the members of our staff. We were favorites and we managed to win, thanks coach and all the players, it was a hard job, but to succeed in this way is fantastic. PSG celebrations cancelled due to hooligans

There will be no visit to the town hall for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his teammates in Paris SG on Wednesday. The celebrations are canceled due to the unrest that erupted in central Paris after PSG secured league victory.

It was supposed that the PSG players would raise the victory trophy at the town hall balcony and receive the fans’ jubilation on Wednesday. But both the mayor and the Home Secretary is very upset by the riots so the celebration is cancelled.

“The day after the riots sabotaged celebrations of PSG’s league victory, damaged Paris and deeply wounded city residents, I would like to express my contempt and my anger at the violence that hundreds of hooligans are responsible for,” Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said in a statement.

French Interior Minister Manuel Valls has called representatives of PSG, the French league, the police, the mayor’s office and anti-hooligan authorities for a meeting today to discuss the events on Monday when hooligans clashed with riot police. More than 30 people were injured and 21 arrested.

It was when the team would receive celebrations at the Place de la Trocadero as it derailed and hardcore “fans”, known as ultras, threw smoke bombs and other objects to the podium and got into trouble with the police. The celebration was interrupted prematurely and even players’ planned boat ride along the Seine on Monday evening had to be canceled.
