Leonardo in trouble after tackle

After the game against Valenciennes an upset Leonardo stormed into the player tunnel and pushed the referee. This could now have an expensive price. According to L’Équipe the rules state that he can be banned for a year’s time. PSG could also be penalized with point deductions.

Only 1-1 against Valenciennes at the height of the title hunt, team captain Thiago Silva controversially sent off and Zlatan Ibrahimovic punished with a yellow card after the final whistle. PSG’s sporting director Leonardo was furious after Sunday’s slip and rushed down from the stands to confront referee Alexandre Castro. When Leonardo reached the referee he put a tacle against the referee and Leonardo is now in trouble.

French l’Équipe has picked up the league’s disciplinary rulebook and found Rule 2.9. It says, in particular, that “sports manager, trainer or physician who has done wrong in itself can be banned and the team may be penalized with point deductions.”

According to the newspaper it is possible that Leonardo could get a one-year suspension. Any points deduction would mean that gold battle may very much be alive. Marseille is seven points behind and three games left to play.

It’s not the first time that Leonardo gets upset with the judges. Most recently, the team’s big fight with Evian:
– It was an important game for both teams, one team wanted to avoid relegation, the second team fight for the title. It was a tense match, but do not overdo it. The referee has lost his mind, he said then.
PSG has during this season got a total of nine red cards this season. Thiago Silva had before the game just got two yellow cards since he joined the Ligue 1 and was not sent off even once in Serie A.
Silva, Salvatore Sirigu and Marco Verratti are all banned for PSG’s next match against Lyon.
